Save Me has a funny music video: Howard being captured by aliens. You get different textures, and therefore the quality reveals itself. I liked how blasting the pre-verse was, before the second verse. The chorus becomes more melodic and atmospheric - that's the quality you should aim for. I Would Do Anything is how a heavy song from the band's standards should sound. The length is also worth mentioning, giving this song some life and meaning. While it's atmospheric and the bass sounds great, as the guitars delivering great riffs and melodies, Howard once again capturing the moment with his baritone voice in the chorus, as he has had in the majority of As Daylight Dies. The Return is the first song on this forsaken album to showcase any quality. It sounds lighter than most songs, but too forgettable as well. Like some of the annoyingly melodic songs in the beginning, A Light in a Darkened World is no different. I used to like it back in the day, but now realizing it doesn't possess any quality. But like the last track, it sounds mediocre. It's got great guitars and some awesome hardcore to blasting drums. Another single: Reckoning, believe it or not, doesn't sound that bad. The Forgotten is just a heavy, mediocre song that kinda sounds southern. The melodies are rather annoying, while Howard sounds unappealing. One of the band's singles: Starting Over also sold itself as a mainstream song. It's very repetitive with badly catchy riffs. But all that doesn't make this song better. At least his unclean vocals sounded right just before Mike threw in one of his bass moments before the bridge, which sounds great. Howard in Never Again makes this song belong to As Daylight Dies (NOT A GOOD THING), while the riffage and melodies sound generic. It's also pretty short compared to other albums, when the majority of the songs are below 3:30. The production because of how the quality and how mainstream this album sounds like, and the direction because of how the music sounds lacking inspiration, sounding dull, not fulfilling in melodies and heaviness, and looks like the band lost touch with what they once incorporated. Now that I'm done with my rant, let's find out exactly why such a disappointing album came to be after a flawless one that is As Daylight Dies: The production and direction are bad. Sure, it might look like a big deal as to why one wouldn't just change the name of the album themselves so it won't be recognized with the original, but that's still very irritating if you ask me. Couldn't you call it Killswitch Engage II instead?! Though I suppose even the songs' titles aren't worthy to be named after this album. Even though the years of each release suggests otherwise, it'll still not fix itself for you. Hell, you can't even separate between this album and the debut in some music programs since the names of the two albums are exactly the same - it'll conjoin them and treat them as a single album. Is this supposed to be a reimagining of "what if Howard Jones was the original singer" or something? Not only the music is 50% bad, but the title for the album is worst of all. If there's one thing I most definitely hate about this album as I'd like to think anyone with a right mind would, is that goddamn title.
